This is a heart-breaking but very real scenario for parents trying to live off of minimum wage, as well as working full-time jobs. This is due to the fact of the minimum wage being low, and the price of living being high. Within the United States, many people who are in fact working full-time, cannot support themselves and their families; The solution is to put laws in place to raise the minimum wage. Small businesses have always went back and forth when it comes to raising or keeping the minimal wage at a certain price. There is a lot of history to minimum wage. In August of 2014, within small businesses the minimum wage was started at only $6.50. Starting in August of 2015, minimum wage was raised to up to $7.25 and then in August of 2016, the minimum wage was up to $7.75. Because of minimum wage and the outcomes of what it s like to live off of minimum wage, small businesses are sometimes unable to keep employees because of the lack of pay. In both the texts, the supernatural element arises through apparitions, which also raises questions about the condition of the human mind. However, the supernatural element extends further than just questioning our susceptibility. Both texts contain this Gothic element to challenge religious beliefs. In James novella, the Governess never makes it to church, as she is not fit for church and this is juxtaposed to the supernatural apparitions. This shows the challenging of religious morals, as modernism questions Christian faith, showing insecurities of the society. Similarly, Amenabar deploys the supernatural element in his film to challenge religion, though with greater severity. The voiceover of Grace in the introduction of the film shows her as a devout Christian, but this is juxtaposed with her sceptical children who oppose her and dont believe God made the world in seven days. The revelation of spectres also influences us, when we see Grace punishing her children for lying about the noises in the house. We are made to feel ignorant. We also see that Grace is keeping them in the dark by suffocating them with religion. This challenges religion, but is questioning whether children are victimised by the adult world. The spectres haunt Grace, who only feels that there is something in her house, but does not see the spectres. It is very typically represented by Grace as something that is, diabolical and not human because it says so in the Bible which is her answer to everything. From the comparative study of the film, The Others and the novella, The Turn of the Screw I have learned of the significant purpose and value of Gothic fiction. Now the main focus is on the future of teen driving. It is a very serious issue, which needs very serious reform. Now the Georgia senate is considering narrowing driving curfews of teenagers. This new proposal calls for sixteen and seventeen year olds to be off the roads between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. this proposal had been urged lt. Governor Mark Taylor and senator Phil Gingrey. Governor Roy Barnes first proposed this curfew. Taylor then proposed another solution, which would call for 16-year-old drivers to be off the road by 10 p.m. and for 17 year olds to be off by midnight. I prefer this solution because many teens especially older ones dont have much time after they work or leave school events. Some people say that we should have a 9 p.m. curfew for teen drivers. This curfew is like the one already in effect in North Carolina. Their deaths and injuries due to driving have dropped 29 percent. This new bill would also make any 16-year-old driver lose his or her license for 6 months if they are charged with a moving traffic violation. A second would make them lose their license for a whole ye ar. The new bill also calls for teens to have 40 hours of driving instructions before they receive their license. Many people think that they should put drivers education back into high schools but due to the cost many people disagree. The bill is expected to pass Tuesday and if it passes then the whole senate could be voting on it by next January 26.
